Why do we love vintage?
ABOUT ME
My family has been in the
antique business and fabulous vintage clothing as long as I can
remember!
My mom designed and made custom lounge wear, cocktail dresses
and costumes for
go-go dancers in the late 60's called" Elizabeth Ann Originals" while
my dad and mom both had a love for antiques.
When we moved from the Bay Aera, my dad continued selling antiques and
my mom got a part-time job at the local Salvation Army where I would go
and hang out and hunt for vintage clothing. I still have many peices,
my favorite being a 30's taffeta evening gown with a deco rhinestone
belt buckle and
a 50's white lace and rhinestone bombshell swimsuit.
In high school I received a scholarship to go on and do fashion
design in the city, but didn't want to leave my dad or my horse, so I
decided to open a comic book and antique shop with my dad at the age of
19.
Souther,a customer who collected comic books, headed to Southern
California
and made it as an artist.
Designing a cover for the Ramones and an anti-drug commercial
as I am told by his dad, who still has a wonderful antique shop,
"Beggars Banquet" in town that I still love to hang out in.
So in closing....I love what I do and do what I love. I always have and
always will!
My mom and dads wedding day...my Mom wore hot pink
chiffon
and my dad all slick in his black turtleneck?
Wow!
My dad told my
grandma I was "on the way" via:
the
back of my moms business card.
And another thing!
... Because in a world of Dollar Stores ,Payless shoes and Ross, it's too much about mass production. The craftmanship is gone...the quality is gone. It use to be "the norm" to get a well made dress out of a beautiful fabric and amazing seam work or a car made out of metal, not plastic. Even toasters were made to last for years! All made right here in the good old USA! Now the clothing ,cars and even home furnishings have become disposable, cheap and assemble at home. What are we going to hand down to our future generations?
Please bring on the Vintage! Vintage Chanel,Marilyn Style Ceil Chapman and Dior Dresses, Herbert Levine Springolator Shoes, even a 70's Halston cocktail dress and throw in a TV lamp in the shape of a parrot...I deserve unique, quality things as the norm not the exception, crafted by our artistic predecessors, don't you? So let's shop! |
